Tips To Add Inches To You're Jump

Picture
There are many factors that influence you’re jumping ability. Yes, some of it is about genetics however no matter ‘how white’ you are, using these methods will surely add inches to you’re leap over time.

Before I give you some of my best exercises for increasing vertical jump, there are some basic concepts you need to know. As you may know, jumping ability comes down to one main factor: Muscle and how it communicates with every other part of you’re body.

This sounds simple; however muscle is not created equal. You’re muscles are made up of 2 different types of ‘fibers’, white fibers and red fibers. Also known as fast twitch and slow twitch muscle fibers. Fast runners and high jumpers have a higher percentage of ‘fast twitch’ fibers than for example a marathon runner.

With this understanding, we can say that if you were to become a faster runner you would also become a higher jumper because of the increase in fast twitch fibers. Hmm…

The take home is that if you want to increase you’re vertical leap, you need to focus on exercises that use and develop of fast twitch muscle fibers. Any time you need to pace yourself you are not using them. These exercises will be performed fast and explosively.

Strength + Speed = Explosiveness and power.

To finish off this short article I’ll give you 2 of my favourite exercises for training you’re muscles to be stronger and more explosive, hence increasing vertical leap.

·        The Depth Jump: Start on a platform or box (something higher than the ground). Set up another box or platform in front of it. Simply step down from the first platform to the ground with you’re feet together, then explode up onto the next platform. Increase the height of the second platform as you progress.

·        The Power Clean: This is an Olympic lift. You can see many examples of it being performed on you tube. You can also add a calve raise at the end of the exercise. As you become stronger and clean heavier weights you will see you’re jump increasing with it.

I hope you enjoyed this info on how to increase vertical leap.
